Going Back to School + My Online Learning Essentials

Happy Monday, friends!

I’m so sorry that it’s been so long since I’ve posted.  It’s been a really wild two weeks or so.  If you follow me on Instagram (find me here @ohhappyhotalings) you probably saw that we were out in California for a few days.  Ryan was taking a test for a job opportunity out there and since my student is on vacation we figured I’d tag along and see California too!  But the time leading up to California was crazy busy and I just didn’t carve out the time I should have to get blog work done.

I think sometimes, when I’ve got a bunch of other things going on in my life, and because I have really poor time management (something I’m really trying to work on), if I haven’t prepared enough, I find myself getting overwhelmed with all the work I need to get done and then in turn, nothing gets done.  Don’t get me wrong, I got all the laundry, packing and cleaning done but I think that sometimes, I do the things that seem the most manageable to avoid doing the harder work that should also be taking priority.

Anyway…Ryan and I are currently in Florida doing Disney World with my family and since we had a longggggg road trip down here, I really buckled down and got a bunch of work done.  On a side note, we have Wi-Fi in our new car, the Volvo XC-90 and guys…its the best thing I’ve ever had in my whole life 🙈.

Onto what I was really posting about here.  As you can see from the title, I’m really excited to announce that I’m going back to school!  After graduating with my bachelor’s back in May, I have done some serious thinking in the months since then about going back to school.  If I was going to get another degree, I wanted it to be in something that would benefit my blogging future.  For a while, Ryan and I had talked about me getting my MBA.  However, after really looking into it I decided that wasn’t really a good fit.  Then, I saw a program in entrepreneurship but also decided that wasn’t an ideal fit.  Then, I read on a Facebook thread somewhere in a blogging group that I’m in that someone had mentioned getting a degree in social media and it totally hit me that that was what I should go back to school for.  How perfect, right?  On top of being super beneficial for my blogging future but social media management is also something I could do as another type of side-gig to fit with my goal of being a SAHM (or really I’d be a WAHM) and taking care of my babies while still supporting my family.

Long story short, I decided on Southern New Hampshire University’s BS program in social media.  I got accepted almost immediately (with my transcript transfer pending) and today is my first day of class!  SNHU works off of trimesters and they’re each 8 weeks long.  Since this is my first time working entirely online and in 8 week long courses, I decided one class is best to start off with was safest.

I’m really excited about opening this new chapter and new opportunity for myself and I can’t wait to really get in the thick of it.

So onto my next topic of conversation here, I wanted to share what I’m hoping will be really helpful online learning essentials for me.

#1: My planner & adorable planner stickers to keep me organized with assignments

I don’t know about y’all but I’m obsessed with my physical, paper planner.  I was never a person that could keep everything straight in an online calendar because I would never check it.  I need a physical, paper planner that will keep me up to date with due dates and assignment deadlines.  Funny enough (well not funny really but timing-wise it worked out perfectly!) you can check out this post I put up earlier today about how I use one planner to organize everything.

#2: A schedule

Ok so this kind of goes hand-in-hand with #1 but I do think a schedule is going to be really vital.  I remember from my time at Saint Joe’s that juggling a full-time job, a blog, a fitness regimen, school and real life is really difficult.  However, I think this time around I’m going to try at least a little harder to set up a schedule for myself to be able to get a little bit done everyday.  I also think that pre-planning is going to be really important as well.  This means making sure that certain things are pre-planned and already done and ready to go whenever they are due.  This includes blog posts, school assignments and social engagements. Make a plan and try to stick to it.

#3: My Phonetic Eyewear computer glasses

If you guys have never heard of Phonetic Eyewear computer glasses, you can check out my post that I wrote a few months ago promoting them.  I’ve seriously been loving these glasses since I got them early this past Summer.

With this class being entirely online, I know I’m going to be relying on these bad boys more than ever!  I may even treat myself to a new pair now that I’m starting a new chapter. I’ve got my eyes (pun fully intended) on Bravo in green!

You can treat yo’self too and with 10% off your order if you use my code OHHAPPY at check out!

Well friends, that’s all for now but be on the look out for lots of posts this week to make up for all the lost time!

Until then, stay golden.
