Marathon Training: Week One Update

I’m a little late getting this up, so I apologize for that but last week was my first week back on track for my marathon training and I gotta say, it was an ok week.

Here’s a run-down of the week:

Monday: REST

I was actually really happy that today was a rest day.  It was my first full day back to work and it took the full day today to adjust to an 8-5 schedule.  It was an unexpected schedule change and so by the end of the day I was ready to just relax.

Tuesday: 2 Miles

Tonight was a 2-miler and it actually wasn’t as bad as I thought it’d be.  I definitely didn’t wait long enough to digest my food because I got a cramp and it took the full first mile to settle in.  My first mile I did in 10:41 and then my second mile I did in 10:19.  It was slower than I’d like but I guess sometimes you’ve just gotta be thankful that you’re putting one foot in front of the other, right?

Wednesday: REST

Today was supposed to be my 3 mile day but it was a very long day and I didn’t end up getting home until 11PM so I never got out so I ended up just pushing everything down a day.  So tomorrow I’ll do my 3 miles!

Thursday: REST

Today was another long day and I didn’t get around to running.  I don’t get home from work until close to 6PM and then Ryan and I went to a car dealership to look at a new car and ended up buying…more on that to come in a later post.  But, at any rate, we didn’t end up getting home until after 11PM so I didn’t get out.  However, I feel confident that I can still get this week back!

Friday: REST

So let’s just go ahead and say that this week for running pretty much went to shit.  I didn’t get out again tonight.  I’m not even going to bother explaining…at this point I’m just going to salvage what I can this weekend.

Saturday: REST

I am literally so mad at this damn week.  Today we had Ryan’s great-grandmother’s funeral and if you’ve ever gone to a funeral, you know how draining it can be in every aspect… I can still get this week back.  I can still get this week back.  I can still get this week back.

Sunday: 3 Miles

While we were up visiting Ryan’s family, we decided to go on a hike at a place called World’s End State Park.  This hike was some serious shit y’all.  I’m talking steep hills both up and down, rocks, it was crazy.  It was reminiscent of our North Face Endurance challenge and if you read that post, you know why.  But this was actually only a 2.5 mile hike but with the endurance needed for it, it counts…it totally counts.


If this week has taught me anythings it’s that you have to be flexible.  You have to be able to adapt your schedule to whatever may pop up unexpectedly (like it did this week) and you just have to be okay with changing things around.  What happened this past week does end up effecting this weeks runs but, assuming nothing pops up as extremely as things did this past week, it will all be okay!  So here is what this coming week looks like:

Monday: REST

Tuesday: REST

Wednesday: 2 miles

Thursday: 3 miles

Friday: 2 miles

Saturday: REST

Sunday: 3 miles
