As many of you may know, we live in Pennsylvania, not too far from Philadelphia. Lots of people in our area always head down to the Jersey shore for vacations in the Summer. However, when I was growing up, my family always headed to Maryland to vacation in Ocean City. My grandparents have a beach house not far from Ocean City and so we often would do long weekends down there.
As a kid, going to the beach house was one of my favorite things to do and some of my best summer memories include being down there with my cousins.
If you live close by, you may have considered OCMD as a weekend vacation spot. Perhaps you weren’t sure the best things to do. Well, today, look no further! I’m going to give you an insider scoop on the very best things to do in Ocean City, MD!
First things first, when you get to Ocean City, one of my personal favorite things to do is head right for the inlet and walk the boardwalk. While you’re walking the boardwalk, something that you’ve gotta do is get yourself a cup of Thrasher’s French fries and an Atlantic Stand hotdog. Just make sure to watch out for those seagulls 😉 those things are ruthless. While you’re walking on the boardwalk, meander in and out of the fun beach shops, peer into Ripley’s Believe It or Not (it’s not worth the price of entry to be honest), walk on the beautiful inlet beach and find seashells, and finish the night off with some delicious Dumser’s Ice cream.
Head to any one of the mini-golf courses, cross over the bridge into Assateague State Park and drive slowly on the road and keep an eye out for the wild ponies on the island (be sure to also stop at the visitors center just before crossing over the bridge for a look at the history of the ponies and the island itself and how time has changed the island…fascinating stuff really!). Fly kites on the pony beach and enjoy the sunset with your feet in the sand. Head back over to the boardwalk and hit some rides at night (the best way to do it), play some games and win some tickets in any one of the arcades and end off the night with fried Oreos or another sweet treat from the boardwalk vendors.
What’s the best way to spend a rainy day in OCMD? Hit all the great shopping spots! The Tanger outlets house a great selection of stores to keep you busy for a full afternoon!
The night life in Ocean City is just as good as all the fun during the day. Our top pick to head to for great night time fun is Seacrets Jamaica USA. There’s live music, good food and great drinks to be had at this bayside, beach themed bar (sand included).
Ocean City is an amazing place for food as well. There is just about an endless array of restaurants to choose from and our favorites include: The Fractured Prune (best donuts in the world in my opinion), Captain’s Galley, Angler Restaurant, Smoker’s BBQ Pit and Seacrets.
So as you can see, there’s loads to keep you busy whether it’s just for the weekend or a for full week of adventures! Ocean City will always hold a special place in my heart and I hope that if you’re ever in the area, you’ll give it a chance to find its way into yours.
